What is the Student Internship Program all about?

​LIAC’s Student Internship Program encourages young Unitarian Universalists to live their religious values through paid internships.​

​​

​The program is made possible by the Student Activity Fund. SAF is a grant-program funded by the Unitarian Universalist Veatch Program at Shelter Rock. 


Who can participate in the Student Internship Program?
Picture
To participate you must:

  • Be entering your senior year of High School in the Fall of 2021 for a 2021 Summer Internship
or 
  • Be an undergraduate college or trade school student, a gap year student, or just graduated college in Spring of 2021

In addition, you must:​

  • Be between ages 16 and 24 on June 1 of the year of application
  • Be a member or a child of member in good standing of a Long Island Unitarian Universalist  Congregation


Will I receive a monetary award for my work? 
Yes. 

Most student interns work between
​10 – 35 hours per week 
for as many weeks as their schedule permits during the summer & school breaks.
Students can also work part time during the school year.

Due to social distancing, remote internships may be approved for the summer of 2021. Any online internships must be evaluated individually by the SAF Program Director. Please contact the SAF Director directly at SAFdirector@liacuu.org with any questions or to set up a time talk about a specific agency internship you may be interested in.

How do I Apply for an Internship?

​​1.) Submit an Online Application no later than May 15, 2021.


2.) If accepted - attend the Mandatory Zoom Orientation & Leadership Meeting (Date: TBA).​​

What does the non-profit organization have to do?  

The Intern's Supervisor has to:

  1. ​complete a Supervisor’s Agreement before the internship begins (click image on left)​;
  2. provide adequate training, if needed, and ongoing supervision​;
  3. provide a safe working environment; ~and~
  4. complete a Supervisor's Evaluation & Hours Verification after internship is completed (click image on right)

As an SAF Intern, what must I do?
As an SAF Intern, you must:

  1. display UU Values while engaged with the non-profit agency of your choice;
  2. ​submit an Internship Timesheet to the Program Director for processing;
  3. have your supervisor validate your Internship Timesheet,
  4. submit an Internship Evaluation form (link below); ​​​​
  5. connect your internship experience to UU values in a Personal Reflection (see below for 2018 & 2019 Student Essays) & text 2 photos to the program director.
